  The recommendation engine is still the reason to stay. Discover Weekly and the radio features surface things you would not have found on your own, and once you are used to that, other services feel passive by comparison. Collaborative playlists are the default standard among friends. Lossless has been slow to arrive and the artist payout criticism is fair, but as a listening experience it leads.

  Lossless and spatial audio are included rather than sold as an upgrade tier, which quietly makes it the best value in the category. The interface stays focused on music instead of podcasts and social features. Integration across Apple hardware is the smoothest of any service. The Android app lags behind and the recommendations are weaker than Spotify's, which is the main reason people leave.

  If you already pay for YouTube Premium this arrives at no additional cost, which changes the value calculation entirely. Live sets, covers, and remixes that never reached official release sit alongside studio tracks, and nothing else offers that mix. The downside is a library that gets messy fast because videos and songs share a shelf, and the audio quality settings are limited.

  The high resolution catalog is deep and the service stayed committed to audio quality longer than most competitors did. With a decent DAC and headphones the difference is audible on well mastered recordings. Discovery tools are ordinary, the app has improved more slowly than rivals, and the price premium is harder to defend now that competitors include lossless by default.

  Amazon Music Unlimited

  Bundling with Prime makes the entry price look attractive, and the catalog is complete enough that you will rarely miss a track. Alexa integration is the smoothest of any service if you have Echo devices around the house. The desktop and web apps are heavy and confusingly laid out, and the split between the included Prime tier and Unlimited creates constant friction.

  Deezer

  Flow does a decent job of building a listening session and the HiFi tier is priced sensibly. Coverage in several European markets is genuinely strong. Outside those markets the playlist community is small enough that the social and discovery layers feel empty, and there is no feature here the larger services lack. Hard to recommend unless a regional catalog gap pushes you toward it.
