      • S

        Netflix

You do not run out of things to watch, and no competitor has solved that yet. Investment in local-language originals keeps the catalog relevant in individual markets rather than only in the United States. Playback stability, subtitle quality, and cross-device resume are the most polished in the category. Continuous price increases and the end of password sharing are legitimate grievances.

      • S

        Max (HBO)

The prestige drama catalog is unmatched and deep enough that a subscription pays for itself on back catalog alone. Warner theatrical releases arriving relatively quickly adds real value. The app has been through repeated rebrands and restructures that made it worse before it got better, and content removals for tax write-downs damaged trust. The library still carries it.

      • A

        Disney+

Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic make a library that renders subscribing unavoidable during certain windows. Production budgets on the original series are visibly large. The problem is the gaps between them, when there is little reason to keep paying. Most people end up subscribing for a couple of months and cancelling, which is a reasonable way to use it.

      • A

        Amazon Prime Video

Arriving bundled with a Prime membership means most subscribers never evaluate it on its own terms, which flatters it. The film catalog is broad and some originals have been genuinely good. The interface is the worst of the major services by a wide margin, constantly pushing rentals and channel add-ons alongside included titles. Value is high, the experience is not.

      • B

        Apple TV+

Per-title quality is arguably the highest of any service, with production budgets and casting that show on screen, and there are no filler titles padding the catalog. The problem is volume, since the entire library can be exhausted quickly and there is no back catalog to fall back on. Priced low enough that this is a fair trade, but not a service you keep year-round.

      • C

        Paramount+

Live sports and the complete Star Trek library are the two genuine reasons to subscribe, and for the right person either is enough on its own. Pricing is competitive. Interface responsiveness and app stability lag noticeably behind the services above, and outside those two pillars the original programming has not established an identity. A targeted subscription rather than a general one.
